About the Project

CrystalDiskMark was first released in March 2007 by hiyohiyo (Crystal Dew World). It has been updated for almost two decades to support new Windows versions, new storage technologies (SATA, NVMe, USB 3.x), and user feedback. The benchmark core has evolved: version 4.0 and later use Microsoft DiskSpd under the hood, which is well maintained and gives consistent, reliable results. The project is free and open source (MIT License); the developer welcomes support via GitHub Sponsors and the official site.

Benchmark compatibility: Results from CrystalDiskMark 8.x cannot be directly compared to 7.x or 9.x because test parameters (block size, queue depth, threads) or the core may have changed. When sharing or comparing numbers, always note the CrystalDiskMark version and test settings (e.g. Default 1 GiB, 5 runs).

  • 9.0.2 [2026/02/17] – Updated language files; removed "CrystalMark Inc." as copyright holder.
  • 9.0.1 [2025/06/19] – Fixed benchmark bug in some environments (DiskSpd 2.2 compile options).

7.0.0: Mix test, Peak/Real World profiles, DiskSpd affinity change, admin rights for performance, font change, HTML→GDI UI. 6.0: Random Q8T8, themes. 5.x: Languages, 75% view, network drive, Dual Code Signing. 4.0.0: Microsoft DiskSpd core, queues/threads (results not compatible with 3.0.x).

3.0.x – 1.0

3.0.x: Windows 10/8.1/8 support, Shizuku Edition, digital signature, zoom, test data selection, NCQ. 2.x–1.0.0: Bug fixes and initial release (2007/03/31).
